"IN HONOR OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES WHO SERVED IN THE VIETNAM WAR. THE NAMES OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES AND OF THOSE WHO REMAIN MISSING ARE INSCRIBED IN THE ORDER THEY WERE TAKEN FROM US."

8 July 1959 - 2 American soldiers killed and one wounded during a Viet Minh attack 20 miles north of Saigon.
13 May 1961 - President Kennedy orders 100 "special forces" troops to South Vietnam.
22 Dec 1961 - SP4 James Davis of Livingston, Tennessee killed by Viet Cong later called by President Johnson "The first American to fall in defense of our freedom in Vietnam".
27 Jan  1973 - Official end of Vietnam war. Between 27 Jan and 29 Mar a total of 587 military and civilian prisoners were released by the North Vietnamese, and during that same period, 23,500 US troops were withdrawn from South Vietnam.
29 Mar 1973 - 67 more U.S. POWs were freed in Hanoi. The same day, the U.S. withdrew its remaining troops from South Vietnam. This date also marked the actual end of military involvement in Vietnam.
29 Apr  1975 - Last American soldier killed in Vietnam.
Regarding the above dates, which were previously unknown to me, I have now been made aware of this new information provided by Doc Stevens and Louise Wilson.
