Heroes of World War II

This site is possible because of the kindness of many Medal of Honor recipients who have provided me with photographs over the years.   A special "THANK YOU" is also in order to the CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR SOCIETY for their continued support and interest.

A rose indicates Medal of Honor recipients who were killed in action during their moment of heroism.  Sadly there are far too many roses.
NOTE:Of the 961 men who have received Medals of Honor since the beginning of World War I, we now have photos of all but 2 of these heroes.  The photos missing from our collection are:

Congressional Medal of Honor
Heroes of World War II

Not every hero earns a medal, let alone the Congressional Medal of Honor -- America's highest military award. Many heroes go unrecognized. But when someone is recognized with such a high honor, you know there is a story.
Here are the stories and details on the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines of World War II who were recognized with the Medal of Honor. Altogether, 440 Medals of Honor were awarded for service in the war. 250 of them were awarded posthumously. 301 of the heroes were in the Army, 57 were in the Navy, 81 were in the Marine Corps, and one was a Coast Guardsman.
